At Northwest Hills, we join together in worship by giving cheerfully and regularly (2 Corinthians 9:6-7). We give to support the ministry of the Word, to meet the expenses of the church, to care for the poor, and to see the nations become disciples (Matthew 28:19). Giving increases our devotion to Christ and frees us to live generously with the gifts God has given us. We give of our first fruits (Proverbs 3:9) because he first loved us (1 John 4:9).

 

May our giving not end with our physical resources, but may we also serve with our talents and time, as we use the gifts God has given each of us for the common good.

 

Give Freely

The Old Testament laws regarding tithing are civil laws that pertained to the nation-state of Israel. So too, the contemporary notion that tithing is 10% is flawed as the combined requirements of the law were close to 25%. While there is much we may learn from those laws, we are taught in the New Testament that we ought to give out of our gratitude for Christ and his gospel. We are to give regularly (1 Corinthians 16:2), privately (Matthew 6:3-4), and proportionately (2 Corinthians 8:11-13). What that exactly looks like is between you and your God.
